northofboston > Carl Russo/staff photo. As of friday, the Tsongas Arena is officially part of the University of Massachusetts Lowell now known as the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. The acquisition from the City of Lowell  was approved by the state Legislature and signed by Gov. Deval Patrick earlier this week and finalized on friday by the university and city. A small tour was given by UMass Lowell Chancellor, Marty Meehan to the media and guest who also made brief remarks before the tour. The guest included: U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas; Lowell City Manager, Bernie Lynch; Lowell Mayor, James Milinazzo, Sen. Steven Panagiotakos who is chairman, Senate Ways and Means Committee and Michael Mizzoni, UMass Lowell Student Goverment Association president as well as other guest.
