They would hope the city would do more to help correct the problem. Todd Strawhecker shows the damage his property has received when water runs-off behind his property and rushes through his backyard receding the soil and damaging his driveway. Methuen High School art students who won top awards at the Scholastic Art Awards Globe Show recently were honored by the City of Methuen at the city council meeting Tuesday night. MHS students, Kasey Walko and Brian Dunne won top honors by capturing the Gold Key Awards. Elizabeth Hajjar and Xavier Garcia were honor by receiving the Silver Key Awards. Students receiving Honorable Mention were: Drew August, Hayley Dolbeare, Kevin Dunn, Ashley Goyau, Ashley Holmes, Tafadzwa Kambarami, Victoria Lavigne, Mackenzie Leduc, Brianne Lewis, Jacob Peters and Brystal Vasquez. During the city council meeting, the art students were presented; proclamations from the House of Representatives, presented by the 15th. Essex State Representative, Linda Campbell of Methuen; Citations from Methuen Mayor, William Manzi and citations from the Methuen City Council, presented by West District Councilor, James Hajjar. The Methuen City Council and Mayor Bill Manzi presented a Resolution Honoring Maureen Donovan, community activist for all the work she has done for the City of Methuen especially for her efforts involving the installation of traffic signals at Railroad Square. Because of her concern for public safety and the citizens of Methuen, Maureen will be honored with an appropriate ceremony and suitable plaque to be errected at Railroad Square. The resolution was presented by City Council Vice-Chairman, Jeanne Pappalardo and Mayor William Manzi to Maureen Donovan's sons at the Methuen City Council meeting tuesday night. The improving weather was a welcome site after three days of heavy rain and strong winds that caused flooding and damage to the area.
