The Academic Bowl and Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative GLEC’s Academic Bowl has received several honors, including a “Make a Difference Day Award” from USA Today and a “Points of Light Foundation,” citation by the mayors of Lawrence, Methuen and Haverhill for building partnerships to make our communities a better place to live, a “Multicultural Achievement Award” from the Massachusetts Department of Education. The Academic Bowl, has served more than four thousand 7th and 8th grade students since 1986 in the communities of Lawrence, Methuen, Andover and North Andover. The Enrichment Program started in 1985 by the Board of Directors of The Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative (GLEC). GLEC also produces The AppleSeed, AppleSauce and ApplePi Literary Magazines, collectively have published more than 5,000 students in grades 3-12.
